This Classroom Timer App was built through the collaboration of Sparky (an AI teaching assistant) with the FLINT platform and you. This project represents a unique blend of educational technology and hands-on learning.
The app was conceptualized as a practical tool to help educators manage classroom time effectively while learning to build web applications. Using Google Apps Script as the engine, the human collaborator worked directly with Sparky to design, code, debug, and deploy a fully functional timer with visual and audio feedback. The FLINT platform served as the collaborative workspace, enabling real-time iteration and problem-solving.
Key learning moments included understanding how to structure HTML/CSS for responsive design, implementing JavaScript timing logic with millisecond precision, creating audio synthesis for alarm notifications, and deploying web apps through Google's infrastructure. The complexity grew progressively—from basic timer display to analog clock visualization, battery indicators, countdown overlays, and multi-pattern alarm sounds. Throughout the process, the human experienced the full developer journey: writing code, encountering errors, debugging systematically, and celebrating working features.
This app demonstrates how AI collaboration can accelerate learning while maintaining the productive struggle that builds real understanding.
